The supplementary keypad allows the user to position the 10-key numeric pad with arrow keys anywhere that is most usable and comfortable. It can be on the left or the right, or even in your lap. We are constantly amazed by the tremendous variation in challenges and how people find solutions for their own problems.
Standard typing tasks (letters and other things that are mostly text) seldom require the use of these keys. The keyboard was designed so that no accessory items are required for someone who usually does fairly conventional typing tasks on a PC. In fact, the occasional use of a few keys in the center section breaks up the monotonous posture of always having your hands in the same position, much like hitting a carriage return and changing sheets of typing paper used to do on old-fashioned typewriters.
Accountants and programmers, on the other hand, seem to use these keys more than the standard letter keys, so the default center location is not as convenient for these specialized keyboard applications, making a supplementary keypad desirable. Those who feel confident in their abilities can even use programmable keypads to further reduce keystroke requirements. Here is an example of a device that can be used to assist: www.x-keys.com
There is only one SafeType keyboard. It always looks the same. You can download and view a high-resolution photo HERE. The only issues are whether your computer requires a USB adaptor and whether your tasks require you to have the supplementary keypad or not, and if not, whether you want a brand new unit or a refurbished one. While we can always have another batch of off-lease keyboards arrive, as many companies opt to get all-new keyboards when they initiate a renewal of the lease, refurbished units are only available when shown in the order options, and they tend to go fast.
